With Patch 8.1: Tides of Vengeance just around the corner, I thought it would be nice to go over some helpful tips in order to better prepare yourself for patch day. We’ll be covering some basics as well as some helpful addons.
A whole lot of new crafting recipes are coming in 8.1. Two of the most notable ones are the cooking recipes that will allow us to use our excess Sanguicell.
There’s the Sanguinated Feast, which wil require Sanguicell and various meats instead of Midnight Salmon and various fish. The stat buff is the same as the Bountiful Captain’s Feast, just different mats.
A second cooking recipe requiring Sanguicell is the Boralus Blood Sausage. Unlike the Sanguinated Feast, this offers a different buff compared to the currently available foods. Instead of giving 55 of a Secondary Stat, it gives 85 of a Primary Stat!
As such, I predict this food will be very popular. The other mats you need for the Boralus Blood Sausage are sold by vendors and Thick Paleo Steak.
Currently, on most servers, Thick Paleo Steak is cheaper than dirt. This is due to it only being used in the Galley Banquet, a completely undesirable feast. In Patch 8.1, this will change and Thick Paleo Steak will be a hot commodity, so stock up on it now! Buy as much as you need, or buy all of it at a reasonable price and resell it after the patch goes live for a nice profit!
I’ve Got a Bit of a Reputation …
Patch 8.1 will bring with it Paragon Reputations and their many rewards in the form of crafting recipes, pets and toys! In order to get a head start with those, here’s some things to consider.
Two days before the patch goes live, complete your Emissary Quests, but don’t turn them in. Turn them in after the patch, and you’ll have 1500 reputation ready to go towards Paragon Reputation with those two factions. That is, if you’re already exalted of course.
Another tip which was submitted by my guildie Hagbag is to send your followers on missions that reward Reputation before the patch. The particular missions he mentioned were the ones that reward 250 rep and 225 as a bonus. That’s a total of 475 reputation!
My hunterbuddy Artenesse made the point of (re)installing the Paragon Reputation addon. It replaces the default Reputation bar, which is filled at Exalted and shows the progress towards your Paragon reward instead. There’s even an option to display a Toast Window when you have a Paragon Reward available.
Yes, I know the screenshot were taken on my Horde Hunter, don’t hold it against me, there were no relevant missions available on my Alliance Hunter.
Get Your Mythic On
You see that chest? Come patch day, it will contain the usual stuff you get from it, plus a little something extra. A couple of weeks ago, I made a blog post about Thaumaturge Vashreen. In it, I talked about the new currency that will allow us to straight up buy either random or specific pieces of Azerite Armor.
That currency is no longer called Azerite Impurity. In Patch 8.1, it will be known as Titan Residuum. The function will be the same though, and Blizzard has confirmed that completing a Mythic+ Dungeon will reward the currency on patch day.
You’ll want to go as high as you can by the way, because unlike the equipment found in the weekly cache, the Titan Residuum will scale beyond Mythic +10!
The addition of this currency comes with one noticeable consequence though. There will no longer be pieces of Azerite Armor contained in the weekly cache. Instead, you use the currency to buy the pieces you want.
Tying up Loose Ends
The last piece of advice I will give you is to complete your faction story lines and war campaigns. Patch 8.1 will bring a lot of new story with it, so make sure you’re ready to go when those new quest lines become available.
The faction story quests will be available right from the start for the people who have complete all previous chapters.
The war campaign continuation will be made available in Patch 8.1.5, along with Siege of Dazar’alor and the Battle for Darkshore Warfront.
If I missed anything, feel free to mention your tips and hints in the comment section. I wish you all a Happy Patch Day to come! Be sure to read all about Patch Day in the next issue of the Battle for Azeroth Bulletin!
